There are more than fifty dive sites around the island. This makes Cozumel, one
of the most desirable diving destinations in the world. Chankanaab, Colombia,
Yucab, La Ceiba, Paraiso, Palancar, Santa Rosa and San Francisco are a few of
the incredible dive sites that should be visited. You can contact one of our
many safe and courteous dive shops on the island for more information.
For those who prefer snorkeling, we have offshore locations, such as Chankanaab
and boat trips that can be arranged through the dive shops and travel agencies.
Water skiing, jet skiing, sailing, windsurfing and banana riding, are available
at most hotels and beaches including: Sol Caribe, Cabañas del Caribe,
Presidente International, Continental Cozumel, and Melia Mayan hotels. These
activities can also be found al San Francisco beach and Playa Sol. If tennis is
your game, El Cozumeleño, Fiesta Americana, Sol Caribe, Melia Mayan,
Presidente, Fiesta Inn and La Ceiba all have tennis courts. Horseback riding is
also available at various locations in Cozumel.
Fishing in Cozumel is first class. The billfish and bondfishing season is from
February to July, with other game fishing lasting year round.
NIGHTLIFE
Nightlife in Cozumel begins at sunset, when the sky is lit with a remarkable
array of colors. What about drinking a margarita at a waterfront bar? There are
margaritas at a waterfront bar in some places Imagine enjoying the sunset in the
beach, with your beverage, while listening to Mexican music played by our
Mariachis. Or even better, an unforgettable and delicious dinner in a Mexican
restaurant, in front of the sea. Several hotels also offer entertainment to the
tourists.
If wild and crazy is what you are looking for, Cozumel has it. For those people
who like to dance until the early morning hours, there are several night discos,
are in main avenue, and most important is Mr. Frog's.
DINING
OUT
You will find a variety of restaurants ranging from expensive to affordable,
with friendly service to be the standard. If you have only had Mexican food in
United States, you can enjoy a surprise. Authentic Mexican cuisine is different
from the usual Tex-Mex, that is served in USA. Yet, Mexican food is not the only
option. Lobster is one of Cozumel claims to fame. We also have Caribbean
seafood, American, Italian, and many other International restaurants.
SIGHTSEEING
Several attractions in the island, including the Museum of Cozumel, located in
the waterfront, where you will have the opportunity to learn about Mayans, from
ancient time until today. The Celarain Lighthouse and the East coast in South
Point Park, San Gervasio Ruins, El Cedral, Chankanaab Botanical, Underwater and
Archeological Park. Tours to most of these locations can be arranged through any
travel agency, or you can go your own by renting a car or a scooter, which is
usually available right in your hotel. Remember to be careful, wear your helmet
when you drive a scooter, and watch for all traffic signs.
SHOPPING
Cozumel island offers a great variety of Mexican handcrafts from different
regions of the country. Just walk down Rafael E. Melgar Avenue, and will
discover our stores, which have perfumes of the main brands, and casual clothes
from different places of the world. You will also find a complete
variety of
fine watches with duty free prices. You will find the best silver in these main
stores. Please, don't buy silver with street sellers, it could be take. The most
prestigious stores will give you warranty in this metal, including precious
stones, other gems, or brilliants. Buy all these items in prestigious stores.
When
you are ready for a break from the sun and party, take a leisurely stroll
through the village shops. Cozumel is a duty free port, and as such, features
bargain prices on everything from French perfumes to Swiss watches... from
Mexican Art to sea products. You will also find a considerable number of shops
specializing in casual beachwear. Black Coral is the island's most renowned
product, but you will also find beautiful designs in silver, turquoise, gold and
precious stones. Best stores are located by the water and around the main
